The Obese Patient

Since the technical difficulty of open laparoscopy is not related to the degree of patient obesity, this procedure is easier to perform in obese patients because a larger, yet disappearing, incision can be made, and such an incision provides a more adequate field of exposure, which enhances the ease of operation. Several studies have presented excellent results with the use of open laparoscopy in markedly obese patients.
